Tuesday, July 1, Vilnius - President Dalia Grybauskaitė met with a business delegation from Israel. The meeting focused on the prospects for Lithuania-Israel cooperation and opportunities to invest in our country.
"Lithuania has always been known for its hard-working, ingenious and talented people, while Israel is famous for its leadership in the sphere of high technologies and innovations. Therefore, by using the potential of both countries and working together we can not only learn from each other, but also build greater prosperity for our people," the President said.
According to the President, growing cooperation between the two nations has already yielded tangible results. Israel's investments in Lithuania more than doubled in 2013 compared to 2012, and the Israeli technology start-up opened in Vilnius last year added over a hundred jobs. One of the most prominent examples of Israeli investments in Lithuania is Sicor Inc. company which develops and manufactures biopharmaceutical products using most advanced scientific technologies.
Among the other issues discussed at the meeting was energy cooperation. Recently discovered gas fields in Israel could be an alternative for the Russian gas in the future, the President noted.
Israeli entrepreneurs who came to Lithuania have announced about setting up the new Lithuanian-Israeli high technology center which will enhance bilateral cooperation in the sphere of high and bio technologies.
Dmitrijus Kanovičius, the son of the Lithuanian Jewish writer Grigorijus Kanovičius, presented the Lithuanian head of state with a recently published five-volume collection of his father's works in Lithuanian, with a special dedication from the author.
